The Union of French Mosques presents a complaint against Michel Houellebecq after his comments about Muslims

The words of the writer Michel Houellebecq do not stop reacting. And for good reason, in an interview published in the magazine Popular Front, the writer does not mince his words when it comes to the Muslim community. He presents it in particular as a threat to the security of non-Muslim French. “The desire of the native French population, as they say, is not for the Muslims to assimilate, but for them to stop robbing and attacking them. Or, another solution, let them go», he stated. The writer also predicted the future “Bataclan upside down” against Muslims, in reference to the jihadist attacks of November 13, 2015. For this reason, the Union of French Mosques (UMF) decided on Friday to file a complaint for “incitement to discrimination, hatred or violence”.

The complaint, consulted by AFP, was filed in Nanterre court against Popular Front magazine director Stéphane Simon and against Michel Houellebecq and philosopher Michel Onfray, Me Najwa El Haïté said. For his part, the rector of the Great Mosque of Paris finally renounced the judicial process after conversing for six hours with the writer of the novel. “shipping”.

Comments considered “ambiguous”

Last week, Michel Houellebecq admitted that some paragraphs were “ambiguous”. He had communicated a new modified version of his initial remarks which is to be the subject of a book to be published.

But this is not enough for Mohammed Moussaoui, president of the UMF. “The Muslims of France do not understand that Mr. Houellebecq can, on the one hand, recognize that the paragraphs in question are ambiguous and, on the other hand, take no action to suspend their dissemination”he explained in a press release broadcast by AFP. “His proposal to replace them in the edition of a future book does not put an end to their dissemination and does not protect Muslims from their consequences”agree with him

This is not the only complaint for which Houellebecq risks paying the price. The French Council of the Muslim Cult (CFCM, former interlocutor of the public authorities on the Muslim cult), meeting on Sunday 8 January in general assembly and of which Mohammed Moussaoui ensures the interim co-presidency, also announced its intention to present a complaint. .
