After a confrontation observed in front of the cameras with a candidate in the presidential elections, Stéphane Blé was convinced to launch himself into the race for the Élysée. Disorganized and crazy, this neighborhood entertainer’s campaign will nevertheless be driven by a dynamic that will start to scare his opponents… After his feature film simply black (co-directed with John Wax) for which he won the César for best male hopeful, power candidate Jean-Pascal Zadi has surrounded himself with a chosen cast for this absurd comedy with accents of political satire: Éric Judor as manipulative campaign director, Marina Foïs as an ecological candidate, Benoît Poelvoorde as a “black baron” or even Fary as a merchant cousin.

Six years after the first season of the self-produced web seriesscare us (available on France.tv), the actor, screenwriter and director can boast of having seduced the prestigious Netflix with his new project. “I never thought of that, he admits, laughing. But I think that’s totally the point. of Instead: Coming from a popular, poor, black background, I often heard people say: “You can’t enter this club” or “This job is not for you…” But here, the opposite: I imagined. a character who tries to broaden his horizons and dream bigger, or at least dares to. With that I did scare us six years ago »

Jean-Pascal Zadi recognizes a similarity between his character as a candidate suddenly in the spotlight and his own journey after the success of simply black and its more than 760,000 cinema tickets: “There is a parallel with my life. Someone looking for something big, once you have it, is it the same as when you started or has it changed? What did he have to sacrifice to get there? » In any case, the actor has not renounced his convictions, according to his reaction when he himself was approached by the political sphere: “Europe Écologie-Les Verts invited me to participate in their summer university, but I will never in my life go there! Even though I want great things to be done for the planet, I said to myself, “You’re only representing yourself, but not me!” »

Lack of interest in “professional politicians”

If he specifies that he has a voter’s card and has put his ballot in the ballot box during the last presidential election, the 42-year-old actor, however, confesses a lack of interest in “professional politicians”: “For me, real politics are precisely guys like Stéphane Blé, guys who are educators, who are in associations, who do things on a daily basis, who are very socially anchored. » However, Zadi and his co-writer, François Uzan, multiply the references to the present day in France, starting with an eco-feminist candidate named Corinne Douanier, a hilarious pastiche of Sandrine Rousseau: “Since the story was a bit crazy, in order for it to be true, it was important for me that the setting was concrete and that the different currents were almost all represented. »

From À la Maison-Blanche to Baron Noir to Spin City, there are many political series, but neither have won the votes of Jean-Pascal Zadi, who admits that it is not even finished. Castle of cardsthat he found “too dark and a bit disgusting”. He rather claims his influences alongside the satirical programs: “Programs like The baby show where The horns of information, that make fun of the political world, it’s very French. I realized I’m the guy at the local bistro who says, “Politicians are all rotten! », jokes the cheerful one.

A devastating humor that he hopes to be able to apply to a possible second season ofIn place, which suggests the last episode of the premiere. But this multi-hatted artist’s schedule is already busy: after shooting with Quentin Dupieux (Smoking makes you cough), is preparing his second feature film as a director as well as an animated film. And that fans of the beginnings do not despair: a third and final season of scare us is always taken into account.
