Good Omens 2 season – Amazon Studios renewed their beloved Good Omens series for a second season. Award-winning actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant will return in the lead roles, the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, an unlikely duo teaming up to save the world from the apocalypse.
The filming of the six episodes of the second season of the Amazon Original Good Omens series began in Scotland, with award-winning actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant. Alongside them are many of the key players from Season 1 returning, some reinterpreting their roles and others as new characters.
Originally based on the international best-selling novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the new season will explore plots beyond the source material to shed light on the strange friendship between Aziraphale, a demanding angel, rare book dealer, and the busy life demon. Crowley. Having been on Earth since the Beginning, and having now foiled the Apocalypse, Aziraphale and Crowley are returning to a comfortable life among mortals in Soho, London, when an unexpected messenger confronts them with a surprising mystery.
The cast, with some performers returning after the first season to play new roles in the second, includes: Paul Adeyefa, Michael McKean, Gloria Obianyo, Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Reece Shearsmith and Nina Sosanya.
The writer and co-showrunner Neil Gaiman commented, “I am so happy to be back on the streets of Soho again, watching Michael Sheen and David Tennant’s magnificent acting performances every day. I miss Terry Pratchett’s genius, but it seems like we’re all still moving in his mind. It was a real pleasure to have the brilliant John Finnemore with me as co-writer of the story intrigues this season, and to work with the director and my co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon as he brings the ship forward, along with our amazing crew, back for this second adventure. This season we will have new adventures with old friends, to solve some extremely mysterious mysteries and to meet some completely new humans (alive, dead and more), angels and demons. We were lucky in the first season to have so many outstanding actors, so I had the pleasure of inviting them to return, whenever possible, some to the roles they originally played, others to play new parts written especially for them. “
The co-showrunner and director Douglas Mackinnon said: “Having a company of actors come together for this second season of Good Omens is like reuniting a family, this time in Scotland. Not only the cast, but also many members of the crew from the first season of Good Omens came together. Our team is enriching with new talent in front of and behind the camera, so I’m thrilled to be at the helm for another six episodes of what we hope will be heavenly entertainment. “
Neil Gaiman continues in his role as executive producer and will co-showrunner alongside executive producer Douglas Mackinnon, who will again also cover the role of director. Rob Wilkins, John Finnemore and Josh Cole, Head of Comedy at BBC Studios Productions, will also be executive producers, and Finnemore will also co-write alongside Gaiman. Good Omens is based on the beloved international best-selling novel ‘Good Omens’ by Terry Pratchett (Hogfather) and Gaiman. The new season is produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation and Narrativia.
Neil Gaiman said: “It has been thirty-one years since ‘Good Omens’ was released, which means that it has been thirty-two since the night Terry Pratchett and I sat in our respective beds in a hotel room. in Seattle, during a World Fantasy Convention, and we were planning the sequel. I got to use parts of that sequel in Good Omens – and that’s where our angels came from. Terry is no longer here, but when he was still with us we talked about what we wanted to do with “Good Omens” and where the story should take. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I have the opportunity to take it in that very direction. I involved wonderful collaborators and John Finnemore, he came aboard to take the baton with me. There are tons of questions people have asked about what happened next (and also what happened before) to our favorite angel and demon. And here are the answers you were hoping for. We will return to Soho to unravel, through time and space travel, a mystery that begins with an angel walking around Soho with no memory ”.
Rob Wilkins said, “Terry and Neil have always known that Crowley and Aziraphale were not one-story characters and have long harbored plans to expand their adventures. The amazing performances of David and Michael have made it a real necessity. Terry would certainly have been very happy with how they brought his characters to life, and excited, as I am now, that a second season is in the works. “
Michael Sheen he declared: “Personally I am against it, but the world will not save itself, will it? If David and I manage not to get along too badly, this could also be the right time for us to get the job done ”.
David Tennant added: “The return of Good Omens is fantastic news for me, as I will once again have the opportunity to work with Michael and speak the fantastic words of Neil. It is perhaps worse news for the universe as it most likely means that there will be a new threat to existence to deal with, but, you know, a little is lost, a little is won. “
Good Omens premiered worldwide on Prime Video as a limited series in May 2019 and is based on the 1990 novel, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The first season, winner of a Hugo Award and much appreciated by millions of passionate fans around the world, stars Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Anna Maxwell Martin, Mireille Enos, and many others.
