Since 2016, the House of Harry Winston has always operated to celebrate the Lunar New Year with timepieces by staging the animals of the Chinese zodiac. On 1 February 2022 it will welcome theyear of the tiger, an animal that arouses fear and admiration and was regarded as the king of all animals in the Middle Empire. Legend has it that personalities born under the sign of the Tiger are fiercely independent, with powerful and passionate personalities.
Before leaving their mother’s protection, tiger babies discover the world around them and perfect their hunting skills by playing with their siblings. The designers Harry Winston have thus imagined to represent the first stages of life with their tiger cubs to adorn the dial of the Premier Chinese New Year Automatic 36mm.
Harry Winston Premier Chinese New Year Automatic: unique features
To recreate their magnificent mantle, each little animal was crafted from 18k rose gold. The streaks were obtained by digging the gold in some places then applying the red mother-of-pearl on top. Their adorable little faces, with mustaches and cute little noses, are illuminated by their brilliant-cut diamond eyes.
As a watch celebrating one of China’s most cherished traditions, a red mother-of-pearl caseback it was paired with gold, thus symbolizing good luck and prosperity.

What is particularly memorable about the Chinese New Year pattern is the first-time mark of a rosette affixed to a Harry Winston watch. This floral pattern comes from the lavish forged iron doors of the iconic Harry Winston Salon located at 718 Fifth Avenue in New York. Crafted in 18-karat rose gold with a diamond in the center, these Harry Winston symbols have been created in three sizes to bring a play of volume to the dial. Another evocation of the Harry Winston lore is the depiction of two peonies about tiger cubs. Fu M. Ambaji Shinde, the legendary Director of Creation – having worked at Harry Winston for 40 years – was a painter and jewelry designer famous for his opulent creations aimed at Indian royal families and maharajas.
In close collaboration with Mr. Winston, the two men created some of the Maison’s most emblematic pieces, often inspired by flowers. Remembering this relentless attraction to Mother Nature, mother-of-pearl peonies in shades of pink and purple come to life on the Premier Chinese New Year dial.
A tribute to the «King of Diamonds», the radiant dial with the splendor and the sparkle of 65 diamonds brilliant cut. As on many Premier models, the hours and minutes are off-center and set beneath a massive emerald-cut diamond located at twelve o’clock, a direct reference to Mr. Winston’s favorite diamond cut.
An elegant Premier round case in 18K rose gold with 57 brilliant-cut diamonds – some of which are cut into the crown and others on the strap attachments – which houses this new creation of the Chinese New Year. The diamond lugs presented at the top and bottom of the 36 mm diameter case redesign the famous stone arch that frames the iron gate of the New York Salon.
The cash desk it is supported on the wrist thanks to a bright red allogatore strap including the rose gold boucle with 17 brilliant cut diamonds. The sapphire crystal on the back of the watch reveals a Swiss-made haut de gamme self-winding mechanical movement with a rose gold skeletonized rotor.
Equipped with a flat silicon hairspring to ensure unrivaled precision, the movement provides a comfortable 68-hour power reserve and features refined finishes.
