An announcement that should delight French fans disappointed by the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar between the Blues and Argentina. The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced on Friday to open proceedings against the national teams of Argentina and Croatia. FIFA does not stop there. He has also started proceedings against the Croatian federation for “Possible violations of articles 13 (discrimination) and 16 (order and security at matches) of the FIFA disciplinary code” in the match for third place against Morocco, won (2-1) by Croatia.
No details have been given about the incidents covered by this procedure. However, during the celebrations of the Croatian national team, videos broadcast on social media had shown the Croatian players singing nationalist songs with fascist undertones.
Other affected federations
In its press release broadcast by AFP, FIFA also indicated that it had taken sanctions against the Mexican, Ecuadorian and Serbian federations for violations of Article 13 of its code of conduct (discrimination), due to the songs sung by the fans of the three countries.
Mexico is fined 100,000 Swiss francs (about 99,600 euros) and a match suspended behind closed doors, Ecuador is fined 20,000 Swiss francs (about 19,900 euros) and a match behind closed doors. Serbia, for its part, has been fined 50,000 Swiss francs (about 49,800 euros) and a match behind closed doors. Seven Serbian players were also individually sanctioned for misconduct in the group match against Switzerland.
